The idea for this project has been with me for over a year.  What has been missing is the technological support and the leap of faith needed for its implementation.

The Página Web Española de Monument Mountain is a teacher-guided, but student-driven project in which the students in Spanish classes will develop their own web pages and link them to the school's Spanish Web page.  The result is is a platform to the world for students studying Spanish at Monument Mountain Regional High School.

The first step in the project was to develop a main page that will guide visitors to the different links of the site.  These links will lead to:  individual classes, a homework page, international connections, and Spanish tutorials.  The next step is for each student to develop a web page in Spanish that will be a link to the class pages.  The students will be given certain guidelines of topics that they may highlight, and then they can choose to enhance their web page in any variety of ways, using graphics, scans, audio links, and links to other countries.  Finally, an e-mail link to the teacher is a feature on the home page for any parent who wishes to contact the instructor concerning his or her child.

As we become more and more familiar with the internet and all of the incredible potential that it holds for linking our Spanish classes to the world, we will use it to connect to what is happening in Spain and Latin America through newspapers and radio stations.  Students can plan real or imaginary travel to other countries and learn about those countries through the internet.  Upper level students can design tutorials in Spanish for lower level students.  The potential for the internet in a foreign language classroom really is limitless.  My role will be to tap into these vast resources in a way that is of interest to my students.
