| Jan Berrick has worked at Searles Middle School as Dean
of Students for three years. He has been involved in educator for over
twenty five years, encluding eighteen years in alternative education programs
for students with behavioral and emotional problems.
Instructing skills that enable our students to express themselves or to disagree with each other without being offensive are vital to establishing a healthy, safe school environment. Reflections from former alternative school students on the most valuable experiences and lessons learned while attending school, consistently express appreciation for the time dedicated to group discussions. The communication skills they practiced in school are continually applied in their personal relationships, at their present school or on the job. |
